The Vardaman Rams’ season came to an end Monday night falling in game three of their opening round playoff series with Pine Grove.
Trae Owen and Hunter Spencer pitched in the 4-0 defeat. The Rams managed only two hits off Pine Grove’s starter Brock Lindley, who also pitched in game one.
The Rams lost the opener at Pine Grove 6-3. Spencer took the loss. Brandon Washington and Ismael Rios both pitched in relief.
Washington had two hits for the Rams. Rios hit a double.
The Rams bounced back at home to win game two 7-5 on Friday. Tyler Boyette earned the win pitching the first five innings. Rios earned the save pitching the last two.
Boyette also led the offense driving in four of the Rams’ runs.
“We had a slow start to our season,” Coach Boo Griffin said. “We were very competitive after Spring Break winning four of our last six. We played a good Pine Grove team and they just had an extra hit or two.”
“We’re losing three very good seniors, but we will regroup and get better as we go forward.”
