The Bruce Lady Trojans’ season came to a difficult end Monday night with a 4-1 extra inning loss to Baldwyn in the first round of the playoffs.
Monday’s result was harder to take after the odd loss in game one. The Lady Trojans lost the opener 5-4 in a rain-shortened game. Bruce actually led in the sixth inning 6-5 when the rain set in and the umpires called the game.
The umpires said they had to revert to the last completed inning which was 5-4 Baldwyn after five, giving them the victory.
Charleigh Kakales and Abbie Patton each had two hits. Patton pitched all five innings striking out four.
Monday, Patton allowed no earned runs, only six hits and struck out six in eight innings of work. She also had three of the Lady Trojans’ six hits and drove in their only run.
“I’m proud of the growth this team has shown this year,” Coach Jordan Hall said. “We finished second in the region and won some really tough games. So many of our young players grew leaps and bounds. We will definitely miss Bailey and Abbie, but this team will continue to improve and do big things.”
