Calhoun Academy defeated Calvary 40-8 to close out the season for both.
“I thought we played our best game all year,” Calhoun Academy Coach Gerry Winters said. “We made one mistake, on first play of second half that let them score, but outside of that it was the best all around game we’ve played.”

Danner Tedder and Riley Dotson led the Cougars with eight tackles. Forest Shoemaker and Dalton Poynor each had five. Beau Walker had four and Cody Pruitt recorded an interception.

QB Scott Shankle rushed for 34 yards and was 2-5 passing for 22 yards and a touchdown.

“That was big for us, morale is high after finishing the season like that,” Winters said. “Now we can go into basketball on a positive note.”
The Cougars won three of their last four games to finish the season 4-5 overall.

“We overcame a lot of injuries and played well down the stretch,” Winters said. “I’m proud of our team, especially these seniors.”
Winters is also encouraged about next year.

“We got to put our next year’s starters in at the end (Friday night) and drove down and scored,” Winters said. “A lot of positives out of that.”
