It was a tough week for county schools on the baseball diamond this week, as only one win was recorded among the Calhoun County teams. Calhoun City was the lone team that did not participate in the action, taking the week off.
Beginning with Bruce, the Trojans dropped two games to Eupora last week, 11-1 and 10-0. Bruce was run-ruled in game one, pushing across its lone run in the top of the fifth. The Trojans utilized three pitchers in the loss, Jayke Logan, Trey Pullen and Carson Spratlin, who combined for four strikeouts. Bruce fell in game two to Eupora as well with Tatum Turner and Jackson Snellings on the hill.

Vardaman took on Winona and Independence last week, dropping both games. The Rams fell to Winona 14-5 in six innings. Vardaman had two RBIs apiece from Alan Bejarano and D.C. Lester, but the Rams committed 10 errors on the evening which proved to be the deciding factor. Dylan Huffman and Ethan Parker combined for six strikeouts on the hill. Against Independence, the Rams fell 5-1. Vardaman’s lone RBI came from Dylan Huffman, and Andrew Easley pitched all seven innings, striking out four.

Calhoun Academy picked up a 17-1 win over Delta before dropping a 6-2 decision to Tunica. CA’s win over Delta lasted only three innings, and several Cougars had multiple RBIs, but Austin Stroup led the way with four. Haze Vanlandingham and Jake Blount combined for five strikeouts on the mound. Against Tunica, the sledding was tougher for the Academy at the plate with Connor McCormick picking up the lone RBI recorded by the Cougars. Logan Stewart was the only pitcher on record, striking out four.
