Calhoun City entered this week 4-2 in the region just behind East Webster and Bruce, both 5-1, but with an opportunity to finish on top if things break their way.
The Wildcats played at Bruce last night and host the Trojans later this week. They close out the region schedule with a pair of games against Winona.
The Wildcats lost a pair of one-run region games to East Webster last week.
McGreger Lee had two doubles in the 7-6 defeat last Tuesday. Jobi Cook had a double and single. Clay Miller, Jo Gray and Preston Conlee each had a hit.
Hayden Goodson and Gage Lucius each pitched in the game.
The Wildcats lost to East Webster 4-3 on Friday. McGreger Lee, Jo Gray and Hayden Goodson pitched allowing only five hits combined.
Lee led the offense with three hits, including a double. Jobi Cook hit a double. Clay Miller, Jo Gray and Hayden Goodson each had a hit.
“We left 23 runners on base in the two games against East Webster,” Wildcat Coach Josh Miller said. “We had the bases loaded six times and couldn’t get the hit when we really needed it.”
The two losses shrunk the Wildcats’ odds of winning the region, but the playoffs are a virtual certainty and a high, important seed is still in reach.
“The important thing is what we’ve done all year isn’t broken,” Miller said. “We lost two competitive games (against East Webster). We just have to come out and play confident and we’ll be fine.”
Calhoun City Lady Wildcats defeated East Webster 8-6 last Thursday.
Landyn Stoddard had three hits, including a home run. Breana Yates also had three hits.
Conley Langford had two hits, including a double. Miyanna Bailey hit a home run. Abby Vance, Raven Arrington and Ariana Campbell each had a hit.
Vance earned the win on the mound pitching all eight innings allowing only two earned runs.
The Lady Wildcats shut out Winona 7-0 last Tuesday. Landyn Stoddard had three hits including a double. Conley Langford had three hits. Ariana Campbell had two hits and three RBIs. Miyana Bailey hit a double and Abby Vance had a hit. Vance earned the win on the mound pitching a complete game allowing only three hits.
They swept Leflore County Monday 19-0 and 19-4 to improve to 4-2 in region play.
