Calhoun Academy pulled away late for an important 52-34 win over visiting Kemper Academy last Friday night.
The Cougars, 2-1, travel to winless Sharkey-Issaquena this week. Sharkey lost to Christian Collegiate out of Gulport to open the year and Briarfield from Lake Providence, Louisiana last week.
The Cougars continued to put up big offensive numbers against Kemper. They’ve scored over 50 points in each of their first three games.
Cody Pruitt was near perfect at quarterback completing 9-11 passes for 271 yards and four touchdowns.
Andrew Haas was once again the big play receiver with three catches for 188 yards and three touchdowns. Levi Gosa had four catches for 29 yards. Preston Bailey had two receptions for 54 yards and a score.
Bailey also came up big on the ground with 76 yards rushing and a 2-point conversion.
Pruitt rushed for a touchdown and scored on three 2-point conversions. Drew Enochs added 28 yards and a touchdown. Payton Chrestman totaled 43 yards on the ground.
Pruitt led the defense with four and a half tackles. Chrestman had three tackles. C.J. Bowling also had three tackles and an interception.
