Bruce’s season came to an end with a two-game sweep at the hands of East Union.
“East Union out played us at the plate,” Bruce Coach Turner Moore said. “I thought we pitched well and played great defense, but we never could get our bats going.”
The Trojans were no-hit in game one by East Union’s Joel Wilkerson and Ty McDonald. Kirby Ross and J.P. Stewart pitched for the Trojans.
Bruce found their offense in game two at home scoring five runs through the fifth, sixth and seventh to tie the game 6-6 and force extra innings.
But things fell apart there as East Union plated nine runs in the top of the eighth to put the game away in a 15-6 win.
Broc Peden led Bruce with three hits and drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh.
J.P. Stewart, Peden and Colby Roberts all pitched for the Trojans. East Union had 17 hits in the game to the Trojans’ 12.
“I’m very pleased with how the season progressed. Would love to still be playing, but we still have work to do,” Coach Moore said. “We were lacking experience this year. That will not be an excuse next year. I’m most proud of our seniors and their leadership. They’ve had a tough journey to get where they are. They started something exciting and special. I’m eager to see how the upcoming class will respond.”
