Calhoun City Senior running back Jesse Nabors is probably best known for his electric play in the open field.
He’s averaging nearly seven yards a carry and 15 yards per reception while scoring seven touchdowns.
“I like to run the ball the best,” Nabors said. “I wouldn’t say I’m a bad receiver, but I definitely like running the ball better.
“I love getting out in the open field. You feel all the attention (in the stands) shift to you.”
But what he really loves is defense.
“I like defense because I enjoy tackling,” Nabors said.
And he’s done a lot of tackling. He’s third on the team with 49 stops.
“We have great communication,” Nabors said of the Wildcat defense, which helps them always to be in the right position.
Right now, the Wildcats are in position to make another run at a state championship.
“The goal right now is North Half,” Nabors said.
If they can pull that off, it would mean their third straight trip to the Class 2A State Championship.
“I think we’re a little better than we were last year because we’re a lot more experienced with our backs,” Nabors said.
They’ll show that experience when they being post season play this Friday against East Union.
