Friday's storms proved to be about the only force that could stop Calhoun City Friday night as the Wildcats powered past Okolona 45-0 to improve to 2-0 in region play.
Storms delayed the game for almost an hour, but once play resumed Brieton Sykes dominated for the Wildcats. He scored on a 17-yard run on 'City's first possession of the game. Following a fumble recovery by Michael Roberson, Sykes would pass to Atarius Moore for another touchdown and a 12-0 Wildcat lead.
Moore would end the next two Okolona possessions, first with a fumble recovery and then a blocked punt. But the Wildcat offense fell out of rhythm and the half ended with the 'Cats leading 12-0.
They quickly found it again when the second half kicked off. Two 28-yard runs by Sykes, the second for a touchdown, put the Wildcats in front 18-0 in the first minute of the third quarter.
On their next possession, Sykes raced 75 yards for a touchdown and Jessie Nabors scored on the conversion for a 26-0 score.
"Linemen did a great job tonight and I just ran the ball like I always do," Sykes said. "I think we're starting to click now. We're getting better at every position."
A 45-yard touchdown run by Nabors and a 35-yard touchdown pass from QB Jo Gray to Jyair Pierce increased the advantage to 39-0.
A Treshone Cooper interception would set up the final Calhoun City touchdown run by Anfernee Campbell.
"I thought we handled the rain delay really well and our young people really played well tonight," Liles said.
Calhoun City travels to Bruce next Friday.
