Vardaman was outmatched and outgunned on Friday night, falling 63-14 to TCPS.
The Rams (2-5, 2-3 Region 2-2A) struggled to stop the Eagle offensive attack, giving up 49 points before halftime. Although the Rams lost last week, the biggest storyline showed itself on Monday when it was learned that Vardaman is dealing with some COVID-19 issues heading into this week’s scheduled matchup with division-leading Nanih Waiya.

“Right now, we’ve had one player test positive and have five guys in quarantine,” Vardaman head coach Brennan Pugh said. “We’re waiting on some test results for a couple of the quarantine guys. As of right now, we’re still operating like normal.”
Per the school district’s rules regarding positive tests and playing a scheduled game, three positive tests on a team result in a game’s cancellation. Be sure to follow The Journal on Twitter at @CalhCoJournal for updates on the status of the Rams’ game this Friday.
As far as last week’s game against TCPS, Pugh credited the Eagles for being a strong football team as well as his unit’s own mistakes on the night.
“They’re a good football team, definitely a good offense,” Pugh said. “For us, offensively, we just could not get anything going the first few drives. Then, when we did have success, we made some mistakes in the red zone. Against a team like that, you know they’re going to score points. We didn’t play well enough to have a chance.”

This week, as mentioned above, the Rams host undefeated Nanih Waiya if COVID-19 stays at bay. Although the Warriors graduated some key talent after last season, Pugh stated that Nanih Waiya did not go through a rebuilding phase.
“They are a really good football team,” Pugh said. “They’ve got some good players and good coaches. They’ve reloaded.”
Kickoff between Vardaman and Nanih Waiya is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Carter Field.
