Thanks to inclement weather, spring break and the onset of COVID-19, baseball and softball action in Calhoun County was limited over the last week.
Beginning with softball, only two games were played over the holiday, both of which were played by Vardaman. The Lady Rams participated in a tournament at Houston, knocking off West Union 15-6 and falling to Houston 10-0. In the win over West Union, Vardaman had home runs from Sarah Wooten, Makynlie Jones and Maddie Terrell.
In baseball, only Bruce and Calhoun Academy saw action on the diamond this week, with both teams picking up wins.
For Bruce, they concluded their spring break tournament on Tuesday against Potts Camp, picking up a 9-2 win. The Trojans had multi-RBIs from Logan Stewart, Nick Tunnell and Jayke Logan. Logan also went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Hayden McCostlin picked up the win on the mound, going four innings and racking up eight strikeouts.
Calhoun Academy split two games with Winona last week as well, dropping the first game 13-7. Levi Gosa went 4.1 innings on the mound followed by Kel Lovorn who went 1.2 innings. Colin Chrestman and Seth Walker had RBIs with Walker going 4-for-4 with three RBIs. The Academy won game two 14-4 in six innings. Zane Ragon threw a complete game for the Cougars. Noah Ozbun and Austin Waldo had multiple RBIs with two apiece.
