Calhoun City is looking for a new head football coach for the second time in as many years after Chad White stepped down from the position last week.
Pending board approval, White will be on staff at Ripley High School as an assistant coach under former Calhoun City head coach Perry Liles.

Calhoun City principal and athletic director Mike Ray plans to take a look in-house for potential candidates before opening up the position to an outside hire.
“We’ve got some quality people on staff that we want to look at and give a shot at it,” Ray said. “If that doesn’t work out, we’re going to open it up and start looking. Right after spring break, we’re going to get started.”
Regardless of who the hire is for Calhoun City, Ray hopes to move the process along quickly with spring football right around the corner.
“One way or the other, I hope to have a head coach by the end of the month,” Ray said.
Following the announcement, White was thankful for the opportunity given to him by Ray when he was hired as an assistant five years ago and for the opportunity to coach the players at CCHS.
“First of all, I’d like to thank Coach Ray for hiring me five years ago and all the support he’s given me,” White said. “I was very, very blessed to get to coach all the players that I’ve been able to coach here. I thank them for all their hard work and dedication.”
White went on to thank the other coaches at Calhoun City as well as the Wildcat fan base. “I’m fortunate to have coached with all the other coaches here and to have the friendships that I have with them,” White said. “I’d like to say thank you to the Wildcat family for their support since I’ve been here.”
White was at the helm of the Calhoun City program for one year, taking over after Perry Liles departed following the 2018 season. White led the Wildcats to a 9-4 record and a Region 2-2A title in 2019.
