Football honors announced for Bruce, Calhoun City and Vardaman

With football season in Mississippi in the rear-view mirror, coaches around the state have voted on all-division and all-state selections, and numerous Calhoun County athletes made the cut.
Calhoun City and Bruce had players receive postseason honors in the Super 25 and Region 2-2A, and the Wildcats had players selected to the All-State team.

Calhoun City Second Team All-State
Shuntavion Crawford – Defensive tackle
Jaquayous Artberry – Offensive tackle
Emariun Clayton – Inside linebacker

Calhoun City’s defense was ranked second in the state in 2A, allowing just nine points per game. Calhoun City’s first-year head coach Chad White previously served solely as the Wildcats’ defensive coordinator and kept that role after accepting the head coaching position. The Wildcats finished the season with a 9-4 record, claiming the Region 2-2A title.

The Trojans made the playoffs for the second-straight year in 2019, falling to East Union in the first round. Three of the four Trojan members of the Super 25 are seniors.

Despite a winless season, four Vardaman seniors and their junior quarterback made the All-Region team in Region 2-1A.

Overcoming an early-season wrist injury, Bailey passed for 717 yards and 10 touchdowns on the season. His two leading receivers were Matthew Bright and Ty Edmondson who were also the team’s leading tacklers along with Gavin Chrestman. Connor Graham also accumulated 27 tackles and was a starting offensive lineman for the Rams.
