The future of the season is uncertain for Calhoun Academy following a 46-6 loss to Deer Creek on Friday night.

The injury-riddled Cougar roster was outmatched by Deer Creek from the beginning, according to head coach Gerry Winters.
“It was a disaster,” Winters said. “There was nothing we could do with what we had to play with. Just did our best and held our breath that nobody else got hurt.”
The hope that no additional players were injured did not come to fruition. Numerous Cougars fell victim to the injury bug on Friday night, leaving them with five healthy players and a playoff matchup with Tallulah Academy in
Louisiana looming on Friday. According to head coach Gerry Winters, the Cougars are playing the situation by ear, but a forfeit is a possibility.
“We’re waiting to see what the options are,” Winters said. “To see, if we have to forfeit, whether or not we’re going to get fined and penalized because if you forfeit a game, it’s $7,500, and a school our size, we can’t afford that. We’ve just got to do what we can and be at the mercy of Jackson.”
According to Winters, the Academy should know something on Wednesday about whether or not they plan to play their playoff match against Tallulah this week. Follow @CalhCoJournal on Twitter for the announcement when it comes.
