Vardaman was left searching for answers along with its first win of the season on Friday after a 45-20 loss to French Camp Academy.
The Rams struggled to stop the run on Friday night, something head coach Brennan Pugh attributes to a difference in speed and being lined up wrong on occasion.
“They’re faster than us and not easy to tackle when we get there,” Pugh said. “We put ourselves out of position a few times, and that didn’t help.”
Despite the loss, Ty Edmondson and Matthew Bright had strong senior nights. Edmondson found the end zone twice on the ground and Bright hauled in a touchdown pass from junior quarterback Britton Bailey in the second quarter.
Vardaman has been hampered by injuries throughout the season and narrowly missed winning games at Hamilton and Okolona earlier this year. Being 10 games into the season without a win isn’t Pugh’s ideal scenario, but he is encouraging his team to continue to play hard going into their last game of the year.
“Keep playing, keep fighting, [and] don’t quit,” Pugh said. “It’s all about pride at this point.”
This week, the Rams travel to their division’s No. 2 seed in Noxapater to finish out their season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
“They’re good,” Pugh said. “They’ve got a good offensive and defensive line and one of the fastest players I’ve seen. All-around good team.”
