The Lady Cougars of Calhoun Academy started their season with one win and one loss last week, the win coming in a 15-0 run-rule of Columbus Christian.
Calhoun Academy’s season opener was a pitcher’s duel that saw the Lady Cougars fall to North Delta 3-2, despite out-hitting the opposition seven to three.
The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but allowed single runs to North Delta in the fourth and fifth innings and a game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Academy took out its frustrations from its first game on Columbus Christian in a game that took only three innings. In those three innings, five different Lady Cougars collected a hit en route to the 15-0 rout. Georgia Ellard had a particularly impressive day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Senior Keegan Hubbard was credited as the winning pitcher throwing two complete innings in just 27 pitches, striking out four.
The Lady Cougars are scheduled to host Columbus Christian on Thursday, travel to Hebron on Friday and travel to Desoto School on Monday the 12th.
