Baseball season came to an end for the Vardaman Rams Saturday after they were swept in the Class 1A playoffs by Resurrection Catholic out of Pascagoula.
“We were playing a very good team loaded with talent,” Ram Coach Boo Griffin said. “We didn’t play our best baseball, but I’m proud of the effort from our guys.”
The Rams lost Saturday’s home game 6-1. Hunter Spencer pitched for the Rams allowing only three earned runs in seven innings of work.

“I thought Hunter threw a great game,” Griffin said. “They got a few dinker hits, and we had some untimely errors that gave them some runs. He was placing the ball well and really had some of his best stuff all year. We just didn’t play as well behind him as we needed to and didn’t generate enough offense.”
Offensively, the Rams managed only four hits off of Resurrection’s Clark Presley. Spencer, Devin Stafford, Trae Owen and Tanner Havens each hit a single. Ismael Rios had the lone Vardaman RBI.

The Rams lost the opener 12-2 last Friday at Pascagoula. Trae Owen, Hunter Griggs and Ismael Rios all pitched.
“We never got in the game down there,” Griffin said. “We gave them too big a lead early with five runs in the first and never could recover.”
Owen had two hits at the plate. Hunter Spencer hit a double and had an RBI. Devin Stafford and Britton Bailey had the other two hits.
The Rams graduate 10 seniors off this year’s team.
