The Bruce Trojans entered this week tied for first atop the region standings with East Webster at 5-1.
They hosted Calhoun City last night (Tuesday) and will visit the Wildcats later this week. They close the year with a two-game series with East Webster next week.
“The important thing for us is getting timely hits,” Trojan Coach Turner Moore said. “We play good defense and our pitching keeps us in games. We just need to have those multi-hit innings to put us in a good place.”
The Trojans won at Eupora 7-3 last Friday.
Broc Peden pitched all seven innings allowing only six hits and no earned runs.
Noah McGregor led the offense with three hits. Trent Hall, Cade Spratlin and Broc Peden each had two. One of Spratlin’s was a double.
Austin Faddock hit a double and Josh Long had a single.
The Trojans lost to Eupora 6-2 last Tuesday. J.P. Stewart took the loss allowing four earned runs while striking out seven.
Joshua Plunk had two hits for the Trojans. Trent Hall hit a double. Austin Faddock and Nick Tunnell each had a hit.
The Bruce Lady Trojans are in a position where they have to sweep their remaining region games to have a shot at the playoffs.
They lost to East Webster 11-2 last week. Caitlyn Burt had two hits. Taylor Brooke White, Landry Dishman, Alexis Edwards, Lily Kate Tutor, Annie Kate Vanlandingham and Anna Taylor Camp each had a hit as well.
They fell to Water Valley 10-4 last Thursday. Caitlyn Burt had three hits, Diamond Campbell, Camryn Harris, Lily Kate Tutor, and Annie Kate Vanlandingham each had two hits. Anna Taylor Camp also had a hit.
The Lady Trojans defeated Winona Monday night on the road in region play.
The Lady Trojans currently sit fourth in the region with Leflore County visiting Thursday for a region double header. The top three finishers within the region qualify for playoffs. They play at Houlka Friday in non region action.
They have region games at Eupora and Calhoun City next week.
