Calhoun Academy opened the 2013 season with a 38-18 home loss to Humphreys Academy.
The Cougars fell behind 30-6 in the first half.
“We didn’t play well in the first half, but made some adjustments and only gave up two first downs in the second half,” Cougar Coach Tim Melton said. “It’s going to take a few weeks for us to get where we need to be.”
The Cougars three touchdowns came on a 70-yard pass from JT Washington to Cameron Bryant, a 15-yard scoring run by Beau Walker and a fumble recovery by Rhett McCormick.
Walker was on his way to the eight yard TD run when he fumbled into the endzone and McCormick jumped on the loose football.
“We will be fine, out young guys just need more game reps,” Melton said.
The Cougars are on the road next week at Delta Academy.
