The high school baseball season will officially open this Saturday with the annual Calhoun County Tournament.
Vardaman is scheduled to host the tournament, but is in the process of finishing their new field at the Sportsplex. If it’s not ready in time the tournament will move to Calhoun City.
Vardaman and Bruce are scheduled to open play at 10 a.m. with Bruce and Calhoun City following at 12:30 p.m. and Vardaman and Calhoun City meeting at 3 p.m.
Last weekend, Bruce and Calhoun City both played in a preseason jamboree.
Bruce defeated Delta Academy 13-0 in a four-inning scrimmage. Bailey Nix and Joshua Bryant both hit home runs.
Calhoun City played in two scrimmages, beating Winston Academy but losing to French Camp.
“It was a good learning experience for us,” Coach Josh Miller said.
The Bruce Lady Trojans topped Calhoun City and Vardaman in a preseason softball jamboree at Eupora.
The Lady Trojans are scheduled to play at Vardaman in a regular season game next Tuesday, March 1.
